Highlights

Completed in January 2024, this Southampton residence balances form and function through a lighting concept by Orsman Design. Lead designer Nathan Orsman, Corina Serrani, and Ashe Leandro, on architecture and interiors, created a home for an avid art collector.

The goal was to highlight each artwork while cohesively illuminating the entire space, so that the architecture would feel like the most intricate art piece.

Custom panels in rice paper and glass are built into the millwork—above a bookrail in the library and within a dining room credenza, casting a warm, diffused glow that enriches books, sculptures, and surfaces alike. Track-mounted monopoints allow the art program to evolve, while miniature strip lights remain hidden, drawing focus to the rich warmth and texture of the wood.

On the second floor, linear LEDs run along the transom window, their rhythm aligned with the rafters to create a soft glow visible even from outside. Additionally, warm color temperature linear lights are carefully placed along the second-story transom window, starting and stopping at each rafter to create a softness and a glow visible even from outside.

Sustainability is at the core: every fixture is LED, exceeding energy standards. Advanced dimming and carefully calibrated curves cut power use without compromising atmosphere. The final project is a home where lighting not only serves art, but becomes art itself.

Do you have a project to share?

Atmosfera is an open space for dialogue. If light plays a key role in your research or a specific project, we’re ready to listen. We feature lighting design projects, art installations, photography series, and stories that explore the narrative potential of light.

Send us your portfolio or tell us about a project you care about.
It could become part of our editorial programming—or spark a new collaboration.
