Completed in 2024 on the Greek island of Serifos, Homa House explores how a minimal lighting strategy can profoundly shape the perception of space while relying on only a small number of carefully positioned light sources. Designed by MOLD architects, with lighting design by IFI Lighting, the villa embraces a deliberately low-tech atmosphere where light becomes an integral part of the architectural vision.
The lighting concept responds to the dialogue between the villa’s contemporary architecture and Serifos’ industrial past. Outdoors, warm ambient lighting softly illuminates terraces and surrounding spaces, creating a gentle glow that enhances the landscape while paying homage to the island’s historic mining sites. Carefully placed fixtures recall the reflections of light on mineral-rich surfaces, establishing a visual connection between the house and the character of its setting.
Inside, the project continues to draw inspiration from the island’s mining heritage through a balance of functionality and atmosphere. Task lighting highlights the architectural features, while subtle ambient glows emphasise the warmth and tactile quality of the polished white concrete, demonstrating how a restrained lighting approach can reinforce both materiality and place.
