Nearly a year after the publication of its first volume, ATMOSFERA Mag has chosen Rome to celebrate its first anniversary in print. From November 12 to 17, in the splendid setting of SANTEDICOLA on Piazza Imola, visitors can purchase the book and its new supplement, as well as visit Benedetta Ristori’s photography exhibition dedicated to light in the capital’s most unusual and least touristy spots. Don’t miss the special evening on Thursday, November 12, featuring a presentation of the project and an aperitivo with a DJ set—a chance to come together and celebrate independent publishing.

ATMOSFERA Mag x SANTEDICOLA: the story behind the collaboration

SANTEDICOLA is a special place, set in a converted newsstand kiosk—once a familiar fixture of the urban landscape, now an increasingly rare sight in city neighborhoods. This small space focuses on independent publishing, with a particular emphasis on publications related to design, photography, and visual culture. That’s why ATMOSFERA Mag chose it to celebrate its first year in print—an important and bold step for a project that began 100% digital and has now made the leap to the printed page.

A constant across all formats is the common thread of light, explored in all its forms to understand how it shapes spaces, images, and everyday experiences, regardless of the medium. Following the success of NUMERO UNO—a coffee-table book made to be leafed through at leisure, displayed, and collected—and in anticipation of NUMERO DUE (scheduled for 2027), ATMOSFERA Mag has added a slim supplementto the volume. More compact in format, it is designed to complement the book and continue its narrative; at the same time, its conceptual autonomy allows it to be read independently as well.

At the heart of the supplement is narrative light: light understood not merely as a technical element or visual phenomenon, but as a medium capable of creating atmospheres, redefining spaces, and generating stories. Five previously unpublished contributions explore this principle across different fields: the lighting of bars and restaurants, which can transform how a space is perceived; lighting installations that restore identity to an urban landmark; immersive works in which artists intertwine light and matter; design objects suspended between function and personal expression; and the photographic language through which light helps define the grotesque imagery of a great contemporary director.

At SANTEDICOLA, you can purchase NUMERO UNO and the supplement (together or separately) and see Benedetta Ristori’s photographs, whose images capture the light of a fascinating, understated Rome.

Do you have a project to share?

Atmosfera is an open space for dialogue.  If light plays a key role in your research or a specific project, we’re ready to listen. We feature lighting design projects, art installations, photography series, and stories that explore the narrative potential of light.

Send us your portfolio or tell us about a project you care about.
It could become part of our editorial programming—or spark a new collaboration.
