Companies hitting major milestones and legendary lamps turning “one year older”. Anniversaries and stories from the world of lighting that make 2025 a year worth celebrating.

There are milestones in the world of design and lighting that deserve to be celebrated. Major brands that show no sign of stopping and, through innovation and research, are aging beautifully. And iconic products that have been around for 20, 50, or even 60 years—yet still feel as fresh and contemporary as ever. Here are the big anniversaries lighting up 2025.

20 Years of Karman

Or 7,300 days of light, as the company’s website puts it. Karman was founded in 2005 in Fossombrone, in Italy’s Marche region. Since the beginning, it has stood out for its bold communication and wide-ranging catalog, from playful lamps to minimalist, technical designs for homes and commercial spaces.

«Whether for interiors or exteriors, decorative lighting must offer both function and magic, surprise and emotion, and bring a space to life in a unique way,» said founder Davide Diamantini. A visionary entrepreneur, he has given designers full freedom to experiment with materials, forms, and innovation. All Karman products are proudly made in Italy, in-house, and the company today counts 26 employees and a turnover of €5.2 million (2023).

60 years of the Pipistrello lamp

A timeless icon by Martinelli Luce, the Pipistrello was designed by Gae Aulenti as part of a commission for Olivetti’s Paris showroom. Produced using cutting-edge molding techniques for its time (1965), it debuted in dark brown, white, and black, later joined by bronze and a pop lemon-yellow finish.

In 2013 came the smaller Minipipistrello, portable and rechargeable; and in 2020 the Pipistrello 4.0, featuring tunable white technology to mimic natural light cycles. To mark the lamp’s 60th birthday, Martinelli Luce released a limited-edition version in matte white, including cable, switch, and power supply. The first 200 units in each size—classic, medium, and mini—come with a “60 anni” engraving and a Swarovski crystal set into the base.

20 years of the Moon lamp

Back in 2005, Davide Groppi brought a full moon into our homes. Moon, the brand’s most poetic creation, is a perfect sphere hand-covered with Japanese paper that replicates the uneven surface of the lunar landscape.

Its iconic pendant version ranges from 60 to 200 cm in diameter, ideal for large and dreamlike interiors.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, artist Gianni Lucchesi has created a series of works featuring Moon, exploring humanity’s enduring fascination with space.

50 Years of Italamp

Artisanal techniques, glass, crystal, and an eclectic range of classical and contemporary lighting designs: Italamp reaches its 50th year, staying true to its DNA, while looking ahead. At the most recent edition of Euroluce, the brand unveiled over ten new products ranging from bold decorative lights to refined table pieces, born from collaborations with both renowned and emerging designers.

80 Years of Oluce

If you had to sum up Oluce’s journey in one word, it would be: experimentation. Since 1945, this Milanese company has been rewriting the rules of lighting with a blend of aesthetic research and technology.

A prime example is the Acrilica lamp by Joe and Gianni Colombo, who used methacrylate as a light conductor back in the 1960s.

Oluce has collaborated with many Masters, including Tito Agnoli, Marco Zanuso, and Vico Magistretti (also a former art director). In recent years, the brand has partnered with Fratelli Campana, Christophe Pillet, and Victor Vasilev, and launched a Bespoke division in 2015 to create custom lighting solutions.

50 Years of the Sintesi Lamp

Set to be reissued in 2025, this functional table lamp was designed by Ernesto Gismondi, engineer and founder of Artemide, in 1975. Its engineering roots show: made of few elements, all in folded metal, it uses two “C” shapes of different lengths.  The shorter one locks into the longer one to form a Y-shaped support, allowing the lamp to tilt and close flat for storage. Available in several saturated colors, Sintesi offers both adjustable light direction and clever packability.

75 Years of Zumtobel

In 2025, Zumtobel Group marks the 75th anniversary of its main brand. Founded in 1950 in Dornbirn by Dr. Walter Zumtobel as “Elektrogeräte und Kunstharzpresswerk W. Zumtobel KG”, the company initially made power supplies for fluorescent lamps, launching its first fixtures two years later. Even after going public in 2006 and expanding internationally (the group now includes Zumtobel, Thorn, and Tridonic), the company is still based in a small town in Austria.

Here you’ll also find the spectacular Light Forum, a 4,000 sqm space designed with Snøhetta, where architects and designers from around the world explore the brand’s lighting capabilities. The hidden gem? A James Turrell installation that only select guests are allowed to see.
